PIA Sets New Passenger Record for 2012
Peoria, IL — The General Wayne A. Downing Peoria International Airport set a new record for the number of passengers departing and arriving at the facility during the course of a year.
The passenger count for 2012 was 580,530. This total represents a 13 percent increase over 2011, and beats the old 2008 record by over 2.5 percent. Contributing to this total were monthly highs recorded in July, August, September and October, and passenger service in November and December that approached record levels as well.
“Our success this year is the result of two things,” said Gene Olson, Director of Airports, “the attractiveness and efficiency of the new terminal, combined with new service to Atlanta and Punta Gorda/Fort Myers, Florida. The worldwide connections and direct flights available from PIA provide passengers with access to the business and vacation destinations that they want.”
