Terminal Demo Project Changes Traffic Flow

Peoria, IL —The demolition project at the Peoria International Airport will result in traffic changes along airport entrance roadways, beginning February 10. Motorists are advised to use caution as they approach the airport along Everett McKinley Dirksen Parkway.

Dirksen Parkway will be reduced to one lane from Middle Road into the airport parking lot beginning on Friday, February 10th. This lane reduction will remain in place for the duration of the demolition project, estimated to be finished in May. A portion of the exit road from Byerly Aviation to Dirksen Parkway will also be reduced to one lane to allow for semi-truck traffic to the demolition site. This lane reduction will only be in place on days when the contractor is actually hauling debris.

“We’d like travelers to have advance notice of the changes so they’re not too surprised”, said Gene Olson, Director of Airports. “The traffic changes are being made to safeguard both pedestrian and vehicle traffic in the vicinity of the new terminal”, he continued. This phase of the demolition project involves the removal of the old boarding concourse and the connecting structure that formerly housed the security checkpoint.

A parking lot map with detail of the construction area is available here.
