Old Terminal Demolition—Traffic Patterns Changing
Peoria, IL—The Metropolitan Airport Authority of Peoria (MAAP) would like to provide notice that demolition of the Old Terminal at the General Wayne A. Downing Peoria International Airport will change parking and vehicle traffic from time to time. Exterior demolition will begin on Friday, December 9, 2011. Demolition of the concrete canopy on the lower level near the old flag poles will start Friday, and this will close a sidewalk and cause small alterations of vehicular patterns in the parking lot.
“We want to advise people ahead of time so they can be on the lookout for unusual circumstances”, said Gene Olson, Director of Airports. “There will be construction activities that people are not used to seeing, and there will be some unusual truck traffic in the area of the old terminal.”
The demolition of the lower level concrete canopy will require the closure of a sidewalk leading to the rental car area in the main lot. Rental Car customers should plan to use the center doors of the new terminal and follow the signs to their cars. Signage will also be installed to help people find their way from the parking lot via the safest way into the new building.
A parking lot map and detail of the construction area are available here for download.
