Form Meets Function at Peoria International Airport
Peoria, IL— The Metropolitan Airport Authority of Peoria (MAAP) held its topping out ceremony for the new General Wayne A. Downing Peoria International Airport (PIA) terminal construction project that began in October 2008.
“This topping out ceremony is an exciting part of the construction schedule,” stated Gene Olson, PIA director of airports. “Not only will there be improved functionality in the new terminal, the structure itself will be an esthetically pleasing facility that our community will be proud of.”
The original terminal building was constructed in 1959. The new state-of-the-art facility will be approximately 125,000 sq. ft. with eleven gates and be able to service well over 2 million passengers annually.
